Sūrat Al-Nisāʾ · 4 : 129

وَلَن أَن وَلَوْ فَلَا وَإِن فَإِنَّ

Ye will not be able to deal equally between (your) wives, however much ye wish (to do so). But turn not altogether away (from one), leaving her as in suspense. If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful — Pickthall

The āya above is Warsh ʿan Nāfiʿ, the rasm of the printed edition. The root behind each underlined word comes from a Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim corpus, realigned to this Warsh text word by word; 125 of the 6,236 āyāt differ in word count between the two riwāyāt, and those were aligned rather than assumed. A word carries no underline where the corpus supplies no root. Lexicon entries are a reading aid and carry no page reference; the edition does not cite them. مضاجعتها والتقصير في نفقتها لبغضها وطموح عينه إلى أجمل منها ( اوِ اِعْرَاضاً)) عنها بوجهه (فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنْ يَصَّلَحَا بَيْنَهُمَا) لا باس على أي الزوجين في المصالحة فيما اتفقا عليه بينهما (صُلْحاً في القسم والنفقة بأن تترك له شيئا طلبا لبقاء الصحبة، فللمرأة أن تسقط نوبتها وأن تسقط نفقتها وتبقى مع زوجها إن رضيت بذلك فعلى الزوج أن يقبل ذلك أو يفارقها (وَالصَّلْحُ خَيْرَ ) إن لم يقبل هذا كلا يطلقها فقط، والصلح خير من الفرقة والنشوز والإعراض (وَأحْضِرَتِ الاَنْمُسُ الشُّحَّ شدة البخل، جبلت عليه، فكأنّها حاضرته لا تغيب عنه أبدا. المرأة لا تكاد تسمح بنصيبها من زوجها والرجل لا يكاد يصبر عليها نفسه إذا أحب غيرها (وَإِن تُحْسِنُوا) عشرة النساء (وَتَتَّفَوا) الجور عليهن قَنَّ ألَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيراً فيجازيكم به (وَلَى تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَن تَعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ المِّسَاءِ) تسووا بين النساء في المحبة، هذا لا يمكن {وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَمْ على ذلك (فَلاَ تَمِيلُواْ كَلَّ الْمَيْلِ) …
